The Industrail Heritage Fair is being held in the Village Hall at Silver End, which is the company village constructed by the Crittall metal window business for its employees.
At the event visitors will be able to learn about the history and heritage of Essex industries from the displays representing leading industrial heritage sites. These will include heritage railways, wind and water mills, postal communications, the industries of Chelmsford and of Halstead and district, metal window and shoe manufacture, and company villages.
There will be two guided walks around the village in the morning (bookable on arrival at reception), and in the afternoon there will be three short talks (open to all), one on the history of Silver End, one on the architecture of the houses and other buildings of the village, and the third, by way of comparison, will look at the Bata shoe factory and company village at East Tilbury.
Admission to the Village Hall is free.
