The House of Balliol was a noble family that held estates in England, mostly during the reign of King William II. Through marriage, they also had claims on the throne of Scotland. John Balliol, a descendent of David I, was named king of Scotland after the last of the Dunkeld line died out and his son Edward was known as a pretender to the throne.
