Asparagus Express from Broadway on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway
All aboard the Asparagus Express! Running from Broadway Railway Station to Cheltenham Race Course Station, celebrate St George's Day and the launch of the British Asparagus Festival with an asapara-tastic steam train journey.
The 2024 British Asparagus Festival Launch takes place on Tuesday 23 April:
Classic cars, including Morgan cars will gather at The Fleece Inn, Bretforton, from 9.30am, to enjoy a little music & dancing before all heading off to Broadway station.
You will join our 'Asparagus Express Steam Train' which departs at 11.35am from Broadway station to Cheltenham Race Course, returning 12.55pm (arriving Broadway 1.56pm).
Join Gus the Asparagus Man, St George and others as we transport the first hundred-round of Vale Asparagus in iconic style through the beautiful Cotswold countryside and this year we're heading to Cheltenham. Gus and St George will parade the asparagus through the train for photo opportunities.
The British Asparagus Festival team will then donate the hundred asparagus spears to National Star Charity in Cheltenham, where our prized asparagus will be whipped into delicious dishes to be served at the Star Bistro, showcasing the very best of English seasonal & local fare.
Please note you are purchasing a ticket for the Broadway to Cheltenham (return) steam train ride only, as part of the Asparagus Express 'experience' - after that you are free to travel the line with your Rover ticket, if you wish.
